SIModified.com opens online racing league registrations for the 2008 Spring Season!

Charlotte, NCEven after a successful first season of league racing and developing a new modified mod for NASCAR Racing 2003, the league officials have decided to make several new changes for 2008. These changes are in an effort to take the league racing to a new level and to make the racing seen here at SIModified.com even more competitive than it was in 2007.

The biggest change will be how the leagues are populated in 2008. When registration opens to the public, on Jan. 15th, 2008, drivers will not register for the division they wish to race in. Instead, they will register and pick the priority of division they would like to race in and then be registered to enter the 6 race pre-race division qualification series. Registered drivers must compete in at least 4 of these races to be considered for either the True Value/Dart Modified division or the Whelen Modified Online Tour division.

Once the 6 race series is complete, the league officials will utilize a new Driver Rating Index (DRI) to rank each driver’s performance. This DRI is new to SIModified.com and will set the standard for each level of competition. The index will reward those drivers that complete laps in races, have good average starting positions, lead laps and have good average finishing positions. It will then penalize any driver that receives a CC, SS, or RD during an event. Any driver that is deemed involved (INV) in an incident will also receive a small penalty.

Once all the drivers have been given a DRI, league officials will send out invitations to drivers for their division. The division a driver is sent an invitation to is derived from a certain level of DRI and that driver’s division preference. Some drivers will be given a choice of division they can run in. These drivers must pick one and only one division they will race in.

Some of the other changes for the SIModified.com Online Racing League effect the divisions themselves. The SK/SST division will no longer run on two nights. This division will run one 50 lap race per week on Tuesday nights. Joshua Guiher has come on board this season to be our race admin for this division and a fourth track has been added for this division, Jennerstown Speedway. This track joins Stafford Motor Speedway, Thompson Speedway and Waterford Speedbowl as the SK/SST tracks. This division will run with open views and driver aides allowed. We will utilize fast or expert fixed setups, single file restarts and the Lucky Dog rule. The Lucky Dog is new for this division this year. Another change to this division will be no points awarded for race results. Instead the DRI will determine driver's positions and the overall champion will be the driver with the lowest DRI at the end of the season. Finally, the SK division will be the only division that will accept new registrations during the season.

The True Value/Dart Modified division will not go though as many changes as the SK/SST, but there will be a few. First, Richie Coy has signed on to be the race admin for this division. This division will still run on Thursday nights and will use a fixed setup, either expert or a predetermined setup. Drivers will be allowed to run open views, but drivers will not be allowed to use driver aides in this division. Races will still be 100 laps, but will utilize the 2x pitstop frequency. This year, we will use the single file restarts and the Lucky Dog for the True Value/Dart races. Finally, once the season starts, the only way to get into the True Value/Dart division is to compete in the SK/SST division first. The only exception to this rule would be if a real Whelen Tour or RoC driver wanted to race with one of our leagues, much like Donny Lia, Chris Pasteryak, Gregg Shivers, Jason Trinchere and Zach Brewer did this past season. Any driver in the SK/SST division that has a predetermined DRI after 4 events will be asked if that driver would like to move up to the True Value/Dart division. It is not mandatory to do so. That driver would then not be allowed to race in the SK/SST division any further and would start tail in the True Value/Dart division for 3 races.

Last, but not least – the Whelen Modified Online Tour division. Like the other two divisions, there are some changes here as well. First and foremost, the Whelen division is going to be a fixed setup division. The expert or a predetermined setup will be used. Next, Charli Brown has signed on to be the in race admin. This division will run 150 lap races, double file restarts, the Lucky Dog rule, forced cockpit view, no driver aides and 2x pit stops. Finally, once this season starts, the only way to get into the Whelen division is to compete in the True Value/Dart division first. The same rules described above for the True Value/Dart division would apply.

DRI ratings will be checked every 4 races in all divisions. Any driver that falls outside of the level of the division they are currently in will be put on probation for the next 4 races and will be required to start tail for those events. If after those 4 events, they have not improved their DRI, that driver will be asked to move down a division or race in the SK/SST division.

There are a lot of changes to our leagues this year, but we feel that they will help our league maintain the level of the best online modified league out there!
