PJ Stergios seals the deal with a win on the final night at New Smyrna! - by Charli Brown


PJ Stergios clinched the SIModified New Smyrna Speedweek championship with a win Saturday night.

Samsula, FL - Candia, New Hampshire's PJ Stergios knew he had clinched the championship, but had to wait a day to learn he had also won the race Saturday night that finished off the inaugural SIModified.com New Smyrna Speedweek.

SIModified league officials deemed that the car that took the checkered flag first on Saturday night had not followed speedweek guidelines and was penalized by being placed as the last car on the lead lap with PJ Stergios inheriting the win.

Richard Davidowitz won the final pole position of the week with a lap time of 16.162 seconds at 111.372 MPH and would quickly jump out to lead the first segment of the race.

But after six straight nights of racing had taken their toll on the competitor's equipment, Davidowitz lost high gear on a late race restart which took him out of contention for his third win of the week.

Drivers were vocal about the driving tactics the leader was using to maintain the lead and after a post race review, officials deemed second place car PJ Stergios would be declared the winner over Richie Coy, Timmy Solomito, Michael Pares, Jr. and Charli Brown.

PJ Stergios would take home the title as SIModified.com New Smyrna Speedweek champion by 35 points over Richard Davidowitz, Timmy Solomito, Charli Brown and Joe Doiron.

Next up is the official opening of pre-season for the 2008 SIModified.com Online Racing Leagues which will begin during the first week of March.
