March 17th, 2008 The 2008 Spring
Season starts this week!
Charlotte, NC - With a record number of entries for the second year of racing in
the SIModified.com Online Racing Leagues, drivers are preparing themselves for
the first green flag of the 2008 season.
Haskell, New Jersey's Richie Coy
is not only the league director, but is also the defending Overall 2007 Whelen
Modified Online Tour Champion. The former Race of Champions modified driver and
driver of the Mach-1 Performance Mustang looks to defend his crown over several
returning favorites and drivers who have won seasonal titles such as Joshua
Guiher and Rex Hoyle.
"Last year wasn't easy by any means" explained Coy.
"I fully expect this year to be even tougher with the new fixed setup format and
the Driver's Rating Index. If the Jennerstown 350 and the pre-season DRI events
are any indication, you're going to have to be ready when you show up on
Wednesday nights this year." he added. "It's as close to the real thing as
anything I've ever done."
Charlotte, North Carolina's Charli Brown won
the Overall 2007 True Value/Race of Champions Modified Series crown over a late
season charge by Richie Coy. New regulations this year only allow a driver to
compete in one division of their choice. Brown is a noted historian of modified
racing and enjoys the diversity of tracks the newly renamed True Value/Dart
Machinery Modified Series offers him.
"This series reaches back into
history and takes us to places like Langhorne, Trenton, Flemington, Nazareth and
the Pocono three quarter mile oval. To me, that makes the True Value/Dart
Modified Series the toughest place to win" explained Brown. "Every week, we're
racing at a different race track this year" he added. "While I respect what the
guys on the tour are doing on Wednesday nights, this series is just as
challenging and some say it's even tougher to win here. I love racing in this
series." For the second year in a row, the Sunoco SK/SST Modified Series
presented by NPGPro.com offers those new to online racing a place to cut their
teeth and learn online racing while also enjoying the Whelen Modified mod.
Drivers can "move up" the racing ladder after honing their skills in the SK/SST
modified division.
2007 SIModified.com Rookie of the Year Zach Truesdail
of Owego, New York is a shining example of how the system works.
"A lot
of drivers didn't agree with how the average finish worked or agreed with the
system" explained Truesdail. "I just did the best I could, and ended up winning
the Spring Season championship. I had never raced online before I started racing
here" he added. "I raced one more season in the SK division just to be sure I
was ready and then I ended up winning the biggest race of the season for the
True Value/Race of Champions Series at the end of the year. I even got to race
in a few Whelen Modified Online Tour events. The Sunoco SK/SST Modified Series
is a great way to come in and learn online racing, while racing modifieds
online."
The SIModified.com Online Racing Leagues kicks off it's second
season of racing on Tuesday, March 18th at the Stafford Motor Speedway with the
Sunoco SK/SST Modified Series presented by NPGPro.com.
The following
night, the Whelen Modified Online Tour runs it's season opening event at the
Caraway Speedway with the Whelen 150.
Finally on Thursday March 20th, the
True Value/Dart Machinery Modified Seires kicks off it's 2008 season at the New
Smyrna Speedway with the Advance Auto Parts 100.
The all-new website will
offer unprecedented coverage of all three racing divisions. Keep checking the
