Timmy Solomito wins a slugfest at New Smyrna!  - By Charli Brown

Timmy Solomito dodged a last lap wreck betwen the leaders to win the season opening event for the True Value/Dart Machinery Modified Series, Thursday night at New Smyrna.

Samsula, FLIslip, New York's Timmy Solomito narrowly missed a last lap tangle between the two leaders to win the season opening race in the True Value/Dart Machinery Modified Series at the Advance Auto Parts 100 at New Smyrna Speedway, Thursday night.

Solomito started off the night with the same quickness he had during Speedweeks by winning the Dart Heads Pole Award with a lap time of 17.055 seconds at 105.541 MPH.

But his transmission gremlins from Speedweeks continued to haunt him as he lost second gear on the initial start, handing the lead to outside pole sitter, Charli Brown.

Brown would lead the race to the KING Design Halfway bonus and would hold the lead until pitting under the caution on lap sixty five, handing the lead to Chuck Darling.

Darling and Zach Truesdail would battle for the lead for the next ten laps until a lap eighty restart saw Truesdail jump low to make a bid for the lead, only to clip the left rear nerf bar of Darling's Howe Racing entry and spin him in turn one collecting third place car Charli Brown.

The restart would come at lap eighty-eight with Zach Truesdail leading over Chris Forster, Charli Brown, Timmy Solomito and Jeff Rogers. Brown would work his way past Forster for second three laps later as the two raced off turn two and set off after Truesdail, who had a four car length lead.

But the race would end with a "Green, White, Checkered" race to the finish after a late race caution for a blown engine.

Truesdail would get the early jump and as the two raced off turn two on the final lap, Brown made slight contact with the back bumper of Truesdail's Hooker Motorsports entry in the center of the corner and spun the leader.

Brown would come home across the line first, but he was stripped of the win for agressive driving, thus handing the win to the third place driver, Timmy Solomito.

Chris Forster came home second, followed by Wayne Wildermuth, Tony Hanbury and Rick Dutra. Sixth through tenth were Jim Rasmussen, Dennis Frates, Chris Rogers, Jeff Rogers and Keith Joseph.

Next week, the True Value/Dart Machinery Modified Series heads north to Myrtle Beach Speedway in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for the Hooters 100. Timmy Solomito leads the point standings heading into Myrtle Beach.

JD Laird wins at Caraway to open the 2008 Whelen Modified Online Tour! - By Charli Brown

JD Laird took 4 tires on a late race pit stop to win the season opener for the Whelen Modified Online Tour at Caraway Speedway, Wednesday night.

Sophia, NCAlta Loma, California's JD Laird used a late race caution to take on four fresh Hoosier racing tires and sneak by the defending Whelen Modified Online Tour champion Richie Coy and win the season opener for the 2008 Whelen Modified Online Tour Wednesday night at Caraway Speedway.

Haskell, New Jersey's Richie Coy would win the first Coors Light Pole Award of 2008 with a lap time of 17.801 seconds at 92.017 MPH and would lead the field to the first green flag of the new season.

Coy would dominate the first half of the race and win the Mends Image.com Halfway Leader Award before giving up the lead during a round of pit stops.

The lead would exchange hands six times between four drivers as Joshua Guiher, Jeff Marble and JD Laird took turns leading the event through it's later stages.

Marble's late race spin off turn four would bring the leaders to pit road with just ten laps to go with Coy opting to take two tires, while Laird chose four.

The two tire stop would cost Coy the win as JD Laird dove under the leader as they raced to turn one with two laps to go.

JD Laird would hold on to win over Richie Coy, Joshua Guiher, Jeff Marble and Michael Pares, Jr. who suffered an early race engine problem.

Next week, the Whelen Modified Online Tour heads to Southern National Raceway Park in Kenly, North Carolina for a 150 lap event. JD Laird and Richie Coy are both tied for the Whelen Modified Online Tour point lead heading into Kenly.
