Phil Jacques wins the 2008 Sunoco SK/SST Modified Series presented by NPGPro.com Spring Season championship! - By Charli Brown
Phil
Jacques raced to seven top fives in eight starts to
win the 2008 Sunoco SK/SST Modified Series presented by NPGPro.com
Spring Season championship.
Charlotte, NC - Vero
Beach, Florida (by way of Webster, Massachusettes) driver Phil Jacques
wrapped up the 2008 Sunoco SK/SST Modified Series presented by
NPGPro.com Spring Season championship Tuesday night at the Waterford Speedbowl.
Jacques
took the double Sunoco checkered flags in the fourth position, but was disqualified
after further review for missing a drive through penalty after bringing
out the caution flag after spinning down the frontstretch on lap 27.
Championships are not won on one race alone and Jacques consistantly
finished in the top five seven times as well as in the top ten seven
times in eight starts during the spring season. Surpringly, he only led three
laps and did not win a single race.
"Coming into this
season, I wasn't real sure how the new DRI (Driver's Rating Index)
worked or if it would crown a true champion" explained Jacques. "I'll
admit, it frustrated me at times being caught up in things not of my
own doing but in the end we still won the championship, so I'm happy
with that!"
Steve Rogers finished second in the standings,
followed by Ed Battaglia, Bobby Ambroceo and Joe Szot. Only eight
drivers competed in every points paying event during the 2008 Spring Season
and several drivers will be stepping up to the True Value/Dart
Machinery Modified Series for the Summer Season.
The Sunoco
SK/SST Modified Series presented by NPGPro.com is designed to groom and
educate new drivers and get them familiar with online racing. The
series will continue through the summer months, albeit under a
different format that does not pay championship points, or count DRI
standings.
