JD Laird wins the rain shortened New Hampshire 200. - By Charli Brown
JD Laird won the rain-shortened New Hampshire 200 Wednesday night at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
Loudon, NH - For
the second season in a row, Alta Loma, California's JD
Laird won the opening event in the SIModified.com Online Racing
Leagues. Laird led a race high 73 laps in the rain shortened New
Hampshire 200 for the Whelen Modified
Online Tour Wednesday night at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
Laird
opened his 2008 Summer Season campaign with the Coors Brewing
Company 21 Means 21 Pole Award with a lap time of 29.427 seconds at
129.432 mph and would lead the field to the green flag.
As
the field exited turn two on the initial start, Laird and outside pole
sitter Charli Brown rubbed nerf bars sending Brown into the outside
wall and losing several positions as Chuck Darling and Zach Truesdail
snuck by. Brown would fall in line behind Bobby Ambroceo, who was sixth
in line to complete the first lap.
JD Laird led the first 18
laps to the race's third caution for Keith Joseph who spun his Thompson
Center Chevrolet in turn one. As Laird hit pit road for service, TJ
Ingerson, Dennis Frates and Rick Dutra followed, handing the lead to
Chuck Darling who stayed out behind the Chevrolet Monte Carlo pace car.
Darling
led the field to the restart on lap 21 over Zach Truesdail, Richie Coy,
Tony Hanbury and Bobby Ambroceo. Sixth through tenth were Michael
Pares, Jr., Jeff Marble, Steve Rogers, JD Laird and TJ Ingerson.
Turn
two seemed to be the trouble spot early on as Richie Coy and Tony
Hanbury made contact while racing for the third spot on the restart.
Hanbury spun his Kolba Construction Chevrolet as a result of the
contact and did a masterful job of saving his car and drove off with no
contact while the rest of the field took evasive action.
Under
this caution, race leader Chuck Darling, Richie Coy and Steve Rohner,
Jr. all hit pit road for service while handing the lead to Zach
Truesdail, who stayed out.
Truesdail led until lap 29 when the
race's fifth caution came for Tony Hanbury and Ryan Curran, who both
spun in seperate single car incidents. As the field cycled through
another round of pit stops, JD Laird would reclaim the lead on lap 30
in his Haas Automation Toyota.
Laird led to the restart on lap
32 over Chuck Darling, Dennis Frates, Rick Dutra and Phil Jacques.
Sixth through tenth were Jeff Marble, Michael Pares, Jr., Charli Brown,
Richie Coy and Zach Truesdail.
Dennis Frates would lose control
of his BRE Racing machine and spin out of the third position as the
field raced off turn four on lap 34. Several cars had no where to go
and were collected in the multi-car incident including Phil Jacques,
Charli Brown, Ryan Curran and Michael Pares, Jr. Richie Coy and Jeff
Marble both drove through the wreck and gained several spots as the
field came to the race's sixth caution flag.
As the leader came
to the King Design Halfway lap, JD Laird continued to lead the way over
Rick Dutra, Jeff Marble, Richie Coy and Charli Brown. Sixth through
tenth were Zach Truesdail, Michael Pares, Jr., Bobby Ambroceo, Steve
Rogers and Chuck Darling.
JD Laird would give up the lead on lap
55 with another pit stop after Zach Truesdail spun in turn one to bring
out the race's tenth caution. Richie Coy would take over the top spot
ahead of Charli Brown, Michael Pares, Jr., Steve Rogers and Rick
Underwood. Sixth through tenth were Chuck Darling, JD Laird, Jeff
Marble, Rick Dutra and Zach Truesdail.
Richie Coy and Chuck
Darling both took turns at leading until the race's 12th caution flew
for Rick Underwood spinning in turn three in another single car
incident. As the entire field hit pit road, JD Laird and Bobby Ambroceo
stayed out to complete lap 70. The race off pit road was won by Chuck
Darling, followed by Jeff Marble, Zach Truesdail and Richie Coy.
Laird
survived two more restarts and a late race charge from Richie Coy to
win the race, which was shortened by officials at the original halfway
point of lap 100. Coy would come home second followed by Zach
Truesdail, Jeff Marble and Bobby Ambroceo. Sixth through tenth were
Rick Dutra, Steve Rogers, Chuck Darling, Charli Brown and Michael
Pares, Jr.
The Whelen Modified Online Tour now takes a week off
before traveling west to the new Iowa Speedway for the Featherlite
Trailers 200. JD Laird leads the Summer Season point standings by
ten over defending Spring Season champion, Richie Coy.
