June 26th, 2008 Marble puts a stamp on his first career victory at Nazareth! - By Charli Brown
Jeff
Marble unveiled a brand new car and drove it to his first win Thursday
night in the Service Electric 100 at the Nazareth Speedway.
Nazareth, PA - Buffalo, New York's Jeff Marble unveiled a brand new Troyer chassis
Thursday night for the Service Electric 100 at the Nazareth
Speedway and promptly took it to Victory Lane for his first
career win in the True Value/Dart Machinery Modified series.
Marble held off a late race charge by defending race winner
Charli Brown, who had dominated the early stages of the event,
but gave up the lead on a late race pit stop to try and cure a
transmission problem.
Saginaw, Michigan's Chuck Darling
set the pace in Dart Heads Pole Qualifying with a lap time of
31.318 seconds at 108.743 mph and would lead the field to the
green flag with Charli Brown to his outside.
Brown
would get the early jump on Darling heading into the tricky
first turn dogleg and the two leaders raced side by side until
the crafty road course veteran took command as they raced off
turn two and onto the backstretch. Brown led lap one with
Darling and Chris O’Shell giving chase.
The tricky
dogleg of turn one would get its first victim as the leaders
started lap 2. Chris O’Shell had to check up to avoid hitting
the second place car of Chuck Darling and spun his Earle
Asphalt Ford as the field scattered behind him to take evasive
action. O'Shell drove away with slight damage to the rear of
his car after contact with the outside wall.
Charli
Brown led the field to the lap 7 restart over Chuck Darling,
Jeff Marble, Chris Forster and Chris Rogers. Sixth through
tenth were Zach Truesdail, Tony Hanbury, Dennis Frates, Scott
Aldrich and Rick Dutra.
The second caution of the
evening quickly came out as Zach Truesdail and Chris
Rogers were racing for the fifth position. Rogers misjudged
his exit off turn two and bounced off the concrete retaining
wall and into the side of Truesdail's machine sending the
Owego, New York driver spinning towards the inside grass.
Under this caution, Truesdail and Rogers both headed to pit
road to check over their cars, moving Tom Meade and Chris
O'Shell back into the top ten.
Brown continued to lead
to the race’s second restart on lap 12 until turn one's dogleg
grabbed its second victim of the evening. Tom Meade spun out
of the ninth spot and into the path of Chris O'Shell leaving
him no where to go but into the side of Meade's car. Jeff
Rogers was also caught up in the incident, but everybody drove
away. Under this caution, Tony Hanbury and Rick Dutra hit pit
road for service, as well as Tom Meade and Chris
O'Shell.
The race's fourth restart came on lap 18 with
Charli Brown leading over Chuck Darling, Jeff Marble, Chris
Forster and Dennis Frates. Sixth through tenth were Scott
Aldrich, Zach Truesdail, Chris Rogers and Rich
Warden.
Chuck Darling's night came to an abrupt end
just as he passed through the first turn dogleg and on to the
short straight. The tell tale trail of steam and water came
from underneath Darling's car and he quickly dove on to the
pit access road and coasted to the garage area, done for the
night.
This would move Jeff Marble to the second spot
with Chris Forster and Dennis Frates mixing it up for third
and fourth as the field completed lap 20.
Rick Dutra
spun his Francis Farm Clambakes machine in a single car
incident in turn three to bring out the race's fourth caution
on lap 21. Scott Aldrich, Chris O’Shell and Tom Meade pitted
for adjustments, as well as Rick Dutra under this
caution.
The fifth restart of the evening came on lap
25 as Charli Brown continued to hold the lead over Jeff
Marble, Chris Forster, Dennis Frates and Zach Truesdail. Sixth
through tenth were Chris Rogers, Tony Hanbury, Jeff Rogers,
Tom Meade and Scott Aldrich.
The first big incident of
the evening came in turn three after this restart with Scott
Aldrich getting into the back of Tom Meade. Meade bounced hard
off the turn three wall and collected Rick Dutra, ending his
run for the night as the field took the caution to complete
lap 26.
Charli Brown looked to be on cruise control as
the field took the green for the race's fifth restart on lap
30 and led until the race's sixth caution on lap 39 for Tom
Meade, who again spun in turn one and ended his night against
the wall.
As the Chevrolet pace car picked up the field
on lap 40, Charli Brown led the race to pit road over Jeff
Marble, Chris Forster, Chris O'Shell and Chris Rogers. Zach
Truesdail was sixth in line and chose to stay out for five
bonus points, with Dennis Frates seventh, Tony Hanbury eighth,
Jeff Rogers ninth and Scott Aldrich tenth.
Brown's
Troyer Engineering team got him off pit road first ahead of
Scott Aldrich, Jeff Rogers, Jeff Marble and Chris O’Shell.
Truesdail and Rich Warden headed to pit road the following lap
and handed the lead back to Brown for the race's sixth restart
on lap 44.
Brown looked like he was shot out of a
cannon as a clear race track and fresh tires helped him open a
six car length lead on the restart. But that lead was quickly
erased when Chris Rogers dove to the inside of Jeff Rogers as
the two raced to turn three. The two cars made contact while
racing for the fifth and sixth position.
The race's
seventh restart came at lap 49 and Charli Brown led to the
KING Design Halfway Award the following lap over Jeff Marble,
Scott Aldrich, Chris O'Shell and Chris Forster.
Brown's
night of dominance ended as he drove through turn one's dogleg
on lap 53. The engine rev limiter could be heard up and down
pit road as he lost fourth gear. Jeff Marble quickly dove to
his inside and took the led for the first time as Brown
quickly shifted to third gear to try and hold on to the second
spot.
The eighth caution flag of the evening flew on
lap 55 for Tony Hanbury who spun his Kolba Construction
machine in a single car incident in turn three.
Race
leader Jeff Marble led the race leaders on to pit road for the
second round of scheduled pit stops, while Charli Brown stayed
out to reclaim the lead. Marble would win the race off pit
road but fall third in line behind Brown and Zach Truesdail
who both elected to stay out. Jeff Rogers and Chris O'Shell
rounded out the top five as the race came to its eighth
restart on lap 59.
Brown quickly opened up another lead
as Jeff Marble worked his way around Zach Truesdail for second
on lap 60 and led to the race's ninth caution for Chris
O'Shell, who spun in a single car incident in turn four on lap
62.
Several drivers elected to top off on fuel under
this caution including Scott Aldrich, Chris Forster and Tony
Hanbury. Charli Brown stayed out to lead over Jeff Marble,
Zach Truesdail, Dennis Frates and Jeff Rogers.
Charli
Brown gave up the lead and headed to pit road for his final
stop of the night the following lap under caution and took
four tires and fuel as the crew pushed him out of his pit box.
Brown rejoined the race seventh in line as Jeff Marble led to
the restart on lap 66 over Zach Truesdail, Dennis Frates, Jeff
Rogers and Scott Aldrich.
Turn one grabbed its final
victim of the night as Scott Aldrich spun his Atlas Auto Body
machine hard into the turn one wall to bring out the race's
tenth caution on lap 69.
The final restart of the night
came on lap 74 with Jeff Marble leading over Zach Truesdail,
Dennis Frates, Charli Brown and Jeff Rogers. Sixth through
eighth were Tony Hanbury, Rich Warden and Chris Forster who
was the last car running on the lead lap. Charli Brown quickly
passed Dennis Frates for third on the restart and ducked under
Zach Truesdail for second as they passed under the Air
Products bridge in turn two. Tony Hanbury worked his way past
Jeff Rogers for fifth as the race closed in on its final 25
laps.
Amazingly enough, Brown looked to be closing the
gap on Marble even without fourth gear. Drivers were using
fourth gear as an overdrive gear to keep the revs down on the
motor on the long back straightaway.
With 15 laps to
go, Brown was charging hard and had closed the gap to within a
second of the leader as the race's two most dominant cars had
a full five second lead on third place driver, Zach Truesdail.
Truesdail headed to pit road with five laps to go, giving up
third after running out of fuel. Tony Hanbury and Chris
Forster had a spirited battle for the third and fourth spot
with Forster making his move under Hanbury for the spot as
they dove into turn three.
Jeff Marble cruised to his
first career victory over Charli Brown, Chris Forster, Tony
Hanbury and Dennis Frates. Jeff Rogers would come home sixth
followed by Rich Warden and Zach Truesdail.
This week,
the True Value/Dart Machinery Modified series heads to the
Spencer Speedway in Williamson, New York for the Don Pratt
Memorial 100 presented by Monroe Extinguisher.
Charli
Brown takes over the point lead by 10 points over Jeff Marble,
Tony Hanbury, Chris O'Shell and Zach Truesdail.
