July 8th, 2008 Joshua Guiher declared winner of the Featherlite Trailers 200. - By Charli Brown
Joshua Guiher came across the Start/Finish line second at Iowa Speedway Wednesday night, but was declared the winner of the
Featherlite Trailers 200 after official review.
Newton, IA -
State College, Pennsylvania’s Joshua Guiher won the Featherlite
Trailers 200 at the Iowa Speedway Wednesday night and became only the
third different winner of the 2008 Whelen Modified Online Tour.
Twenty
cars were in the garage area for the inaugural event at the Iowa
Speedway and the 2008 Spring Season champion Richie Coy set fast time
to win the Coors Light Pole Award with a lap time of 22.783 seconds at
138.261 miles per hour. Saginaw, Michigan's Chuck Darling timed in
second quick and would start outside of the front row.
Richie
Coy would get the early break heading into turn one at the drop of the
green flag, but Chuck Darling dove back under Coy's Stewart's Fountain
Classics Ford heading into turn three and led the first lap. Darling
held the lead until the first caution of the event on lap 6 as rookie
Bobby Ambroceo sideswiped the outside wall exiting turn two and bounced
into the path of Joshua Guiher. Guiher dove to the bottom of the
backstretch and Ambroceo spun back into the turn three SAFER barrier
and collect Tony Hanbury.
Surprisingly, pit stops would be the
order of the day as Chuck Darling led the field on to pit road as
Richie Coy stayed out to lead a lap and collect five bonus points.
Following Darling to pit road were Trey Eidson, Joshua Guiher and
Charli Brown, who were the top five as the field came to the caution.
Darling's
Howe Racing Enterprises team would get him out first to win the race
off pit road with Eidson, Michael Pares, Jr. and Joshua Guiher closely
behind.
Richie Coy led the field to the restart on lap 11 over
PJ Stergios, JD Laird, Ed Battaglia and Jeff Rogers. Rick Underwood was
sixth with Chuck Darling, Trey Eidson, Michael Pares, Jr. and Joshua
Guiher rounding out the top ten.
The race's second caution for
contact came out on lap 33 for Jeff Marble and Tony Hanbury fighting
for the 11th spot as they raced off turn four. Hanbury did the "slide
for life" through the front stretch grass and got his Kolba
Construction Chevrolet headed in the right direction with no contact.
JD
Laird elected to stay out under this caution as new race leader PJ
Stergios led the field down pit road for the second round of pit stops.
Following Stergios to pit road were Joshua Guiher, Zach Truesdail,
Michael Pares, Jr., Dennis Frates and Richie Coy who gave up the lead
during the race's second caution for a spin on lap 18.
Laird led
the field the race's fourth restart on lap 38 with Steve Rohner, Jr.,
Rick Underwood, PJ Stergios and Joshua Guiher rounding out the top
five. Sixth through tenth were Michael Pares, Jr., Zach Truesdail,
Richie Coy, Trey Eidson and Chuck Darling.
PJ Stergios' fresh
tires quickly moved him past Laird's Hass Automation Toyota on lap 39
for the lead as Joshua Guiher followed closely behind and cleared Laird
for second as they raced down the back straightaway. Richie Coy and
Trey Eidson moved under JD Laird for third and fourth as they raced
through turn two dropping Laird to fifth on lap 41.
As lap 50
clicked off the board, the top five cars had opened a gap on the rest
of the field with PJ Stergios leading over Richie Coy, Trey Eidson,
Joshua Guiher and Chuck Darling. Michael Pares, Jr. led the second
group of cars followed by Zach Truesdail, Charli Brown, Rick Dutra and
JD Laird who was holding on to the tenth position on older tires than
the cars in front of him.
The race's fifth caution would fly on
lap 67 for a two-car incident involving Dennis Frates and Michael
Pares, Jr. as the two were racing for the eighth and ninth position off
of turn four. Pares, Jr. would get his car heading in the right
direction as the field slowed for the caution.
Richie Coy led
the field to pit road for another round of pit stops followed by Trey
Eidson, PJ Stergios, Chuck Darling and Joshua Guiher. Zach Truesdail
was sixth followed by Rick Dutra, Jeff Marble and Tony Hanbury.
Coy
led the field to the restart on lap 73 and held the top spot until Trey
Eidson made his move for lead as the two raced to turn one on lap 88.
Eidson led the next 12 laps to the KING Design Halfway Leader Award
before the race's eighth caution flew on lap 102 for Rick Underwood
spinning in a single car incident in turn two.
Trey Eidson led
the field on to pit road for the next round of pit stops over Richie
Coy, Chuck Darling, JD Laird and Joshua Guiher. Richie Coy won the race
off pit road followed by Eidson, JD Laird, Joshua Guiher and Chuck
Darling. Sixth through tenth were Jeff Marble, Michael Pares, Jr., Rick
Dutra, Ryan Curran and Dennis Frates.
Richie Coy led to the
restart on lap 107 and held the lead for another long green flag run
until he made a green flag pit stop on lap 160 handing the lead to
Chuck Darling. Darling pitted two laps later and had to come back down
pit road for a drive through penalty for speeding which handed the lead
to Trey Eidson.
Eidson made his second bid for the lead as he
raced with Richie Coy in heavy lapped traffic on lap 163. Coy held on
to the second spot over JD Laird, Joshua Guiher and Michael Pares, Jr.
The
race's ninth caution flew on lap 167 for Jeff Marble. Marble had stayed
out to lead a lap during the round of green flag pit stops and was
racing to stay in touch with the leaders to get back on the lead lap.
Richie Coy dove underneath Marble's Priority Mail sponsored machine and
as the two raced off turn two, Marble slipped up into the marbles and
lost the handle on his machine in a single car incident.
At this
point in the race, there were only six cars on the lead lap with Chuck
Darling scoring the "Free Pass" as Trey Eidson led Richie Coy, JD
Laird, Michael Pares, Jr., and Joshua Guiher headed to pit road for
what everybody thought would be the last round of pit stops.
Eidson
led to the restart on lap 172 over Richie Coy as the race's two most
dominant cars headed towards the race's final stages. Coy and third
place JD Laird were both within striking distance and as the two
leaders dove into turns three and four on the next lap, Coy made slight
contact with the back of Eidson's Tee Berry Logistics machine and spun
him into the SAFER barrier in turn four for the race's final caution on
lap 173.
Eidson drove away from the incident visibly upset with
Coy and the two cars made contact at the entrance to pit road ending
both driver's nights, and a shot at the victory. This handed the lead
to JD Laird who had to hold off a late race charge from Joshua Guiher.
Laird
led to the restart on lap 178 over Guiher, Michael Pares, Jr., Chuck
Darling and Jeff Rogers who was the last car on the lead lap. Sixth
through tenth were Rick Dutra, Jeff Marble, Ryan Curran, Charli Brown
and Richie Coy. Coy still had enough laps completed to be scored tenth
at the restart.
Joshua Guiher chased Laird's Hass Automation
machine all the way to the checkered flag and came home second, but a
post race protest and race replay review awarded to the win to Guiher.
JD
Laird would be dropped back to eighth in the post race standings.
Joshua Guiher would be credited with the win over Michael Pares, Jr.,
Chuck Darling, and Jeff Rogers. Sixth through tenth were Rick Dutra,
Jeff Marble, Ryan Curran, JD Laird, Charli Brown, and Richie Coy.
The
next event on the schedule for the Whelen Modified Online Tour is the
Advance Auto Parts 199 at the Bowman Gray Stadium. Rex Hoyle is the
defending winner of the event.
JD Laird continues to hold the
Whelen Modified Online Tour Summer Season point standings lead by 10
points over Chuck Darling, Jeff Marble, Richie Coy and Rick Dutra.
