John Turnure flashes under the checkered flag to win the Whelen "Made in America" 300 under the lights at Martinsville Speedway.

Martinsville, VA - New Jersey's John Turnure dominated the Whelen "Made in America" 300 at Martinsville Speedway Wednesday night and closed out the SIModified.com Online Racing League's 2007 Summer Season with a win in the league's biggest event of the year.

Sixteen drivers filed entries for the event, with six of the drivers earning their way in by finishing in the top five in special "Qualifying Races" to earn a guaranteed starting spot into the race. 2007 Sunoco SK Modified Series presented by NPGPro.com's Spring Season Champ, Zach Truesdail won the qualifying race for his divison on Tuesday night, while Whelen Modified Online Tour driver Steve Meadors would win the event for the True Value/Race of Champions division, only to pass on his spot to Chris O'Shell, who finished second.

Turnure would send a clear message early in the evening by winning the Bud Pole Award in his JoJo's Pizza Chevrolet with a lap time of 20.683 seconds for an average speed of 91.553 MPH. Richie Coy would qualify second quick and start on the outside pole for the 250 lap event.

There were eleven lead changes among seven drivers as both Zach Truesdail and Jim Rasmussen led some laps in their first ever Whelen Modified Online Tour starts, and represented their divisions proudly with strong showings among the league's best drivers.

Turnure would lead 130 laps to win over Rex Hoyle, Whelen Modified Tour driver Gregg Shivers, Mike Gaughan (who was the higest finishing driver to race his way into the event), and Richie Coy rounding out the top five.

The drivers will now take a few short weeks off in anticipation of the soon to be released Whelen Modified mod for NASCAR Racing 2003 Season with a full slate of races being scheduled for the Fall Season, soon after the mod is released to the general public.
